What we do
Since 2014, we have led the effort to support struggling teens in our community.
Our history
Batur and Melody Habibulayev have opened their home to many young people during times of difficulty with family. Some needed a safe place for only a night or weekend to cool down and let pressures subside at home. Others stayed for weeks or months while they determined their next steps. Batur and Melody decided to create a lasting and permanent solution for these young people in need, and Safe Refuge was born.
What we stand for
Safe Refuge Youth Homes of Canada Inc., a registered nonprofit, aims to provide Leduc County youth experiencing unrest at home with a home atmosphere, a safe place to sleep, and access to the resources they need to reunify with family, find other family members to live with, or become independent.
How we plan to help
We plan to establish a youth shelter that provides young people experiencing trouble at home with a bed, a hot meal, and a shower free of charge. Youth will be permitted to stay as long as needed. If family unification is possible, we will provide the resources needed for this to happen. If family reunification is not possible, we will help the young person find other family to live with or provide them with the tools they need to become independent.
